A good example of the IDE plugins situation is how IDEs handle ActionScript 3 new features.

In IDEA new ActionScript 3 features are marked as errors, though the code compiles and runs correctly. And it seems it's very unlikely to change.

In VS Code code, it looks and runs correctly, as plugin was updated to support them.

Features example:

Not only Unity, some specific technologies as well, but partially yes.
Unity became a professional market default tool (as well as Unreal for big 3D projects), like Photoshop for photo editing or Premiere for video editing, so despite it has its complications which I do not like (the same with Photoshop/Premiere), it's worth to get used to it to stay in the market, at least as a backup plan.

Since today I found out Flash Builder is killed on purpose. I wanted to ask @aureliendc about VS Code and extension is it possible to have library projects with it. Because in my Flash Builder 4.7 setup I had library projects that where linked to IOS, Android and PC projects. How would configure that with VS code ActionScript extension?

Yes definitively, VSCode will allow you to do that! For a fairly simple example, you can check the Syrinx-Sound-Manager project: https://github.com/Adolio/Syrinx-Sound-Manager. The base project contains the configuration to build a .swc library and the demo project contains a very small demo application.

In both projects the important files are asconfig.json, .vscode/tasks.json, .vscode/launch.json and obviously the application.xml.

Thanks so much for the reply. Is it possible with VS code and ActionScript extension to debug application. Like to build debug build and have access to all the trace statements in a log? Is that working?

hardcoremore I'm using VS Code with Josh's extension for the last past 4 years (in my free-time) and to be honest nothing is missing from my side. Josh is also very active and he provides a really great support. I'm taking this opportunity to thank him: Thank you @joshtynjala, your extension & your support is amazing!

Plus, the great thing with VS Code in general is its ecosystem with plenty of extensions to do anything you want from reading/formatting JSON documents to writing markdown documents and even designing plant UML schemas. And if one day you change programming language, you will probably keep the editor 😉

I'm also using VS Code for C# & python development. By the way all my pre-compilation scripts are all in python now - it's much more powerful and easier to maintain.

I use IDEA because it just works, always... And Clion and Rider, etc so, I like the IDE features, VSCode has never felt the same as an IDE to me, just my 2 cents.
