How to build AIR game for Linux?

When I drag'n'drop the executable to the terminal and press Enter, I get "permission denies"

But then I copied the whole FM folder to a different subfolder, double-clicked FarmAndMine, and the game worked!!!

I checked the permissions tab, after copying to another folder, the owner of the FarmAndMine, which I was unable to run, is set to "root", and in the copy, which runs well, the owner is "Me"

Will the game launch for you and will the game start after you press Start button?

I have Ubuntu 20 on virtual machine, and the game launches well, but after I press Start, I get the white screen, however, the ingame console shows normal game start. Maybe this has something to do with low memory on the virtual machine, so, it's essential to know, how will it run on a real one.

Also, if the game has problems starting, I'd like to ask you to open the ingame console and send me the log. To do it, please, press the languages button on the start screen (small hexagonal button with letters), then press English 10 times. And after that press Start button.

I packed my previous game, Idle Tower Bulder,for Linux, and it was fully working on my virtual machine with Ubuntu 20: https://airapport.itch.io/idle-tower-builder

The reason of the white screen after Start is pressed of Farm and Mine, I assume, is connected with the textures size. The texture atlas is 2048x4096, while all the textures of Idle Tower Builder are 2048x2048.

I'm getting _starling.context= null on both Linux and Windows. But now I found out, that after the completion of loading big texture atlas, I'm receiving error #3683, will check what it is and how to handle it.

So, I tried to use Context3DProfile.BASELINE_EXTENDED as the profile parameter for Starling creation. But in this case I get Starling Fatal error right from the start.

I have followed along with your steps (independently, but same journey).
I have also found that I cannot get the Context3D rendering to work properly with textures over 2048x2048.

I'm curious. When you ran your game with textures under 2048x2048 did it say it was running as software too? Also the Starling.context.totalGPUMemory reports 0 for me. What does it report for you?
My Starling.context.driverInfo says "Software Hw_disabled=unavailable (Baseline Constrained)".
Its possible this is an issue on my end as I may have my graphic drivers not setup correctly on my Linux computer.

I hope that the Linux SDK can be updated soon to support larger textures and move out of software mode. I know it says its "as-is" in the release notes, but my community is very excited for native Linux builds of my game!

phanxgames oh, that's great that you registered a feature request on AIR Github!

I will check, what will I receive from these calls on Linux. When pol2095 suggested t check driverInfo, I thought, I needed to check Starling.current.context, which returned null.

I will check, what Starling.context.driverInfo and Starling.context.totalGPUMemory will return.

I tried to use the Linux SDK for packaging a Linux bundle, but I always get the error:
Failed to load the AIR Runtime
The command is:
adt -package -target bundle app app.air
The same thing works on Windows and Mac with the respective runtimes.
Does somebody have a hint what to do ?

No “shared runtime” support: applications would need to be built as ‘bundle’ packages with the
captive runtimes

Have you specified captive runtime as part of your command?

I able to create *.deb Debian(Ubuntu, ...) and *.rpm (Fedora, Red Hat, CentOS) with the bundle generated on Ubuntu 20.

As far as I know -target bundle is the command to integrate a captive runtime.
I have been able to build an .air package, but this would need a shared runtime on Linux.

An other problem is Air app doesn't support HiDPI, Air is unusable on 4K screen on Linux.

I'm trying to build my game with AIR 50.2.3.1 and that version crashes right after the preloader.

Last time I used AIR 33.1.1.758 to build a Linux game, and when I run that version it works well.

One difference that I noticed: the executable file in the version which does not crash is considered as "executable" in properties and is run by double-clicking, and in the version which crashes it is "shared library", and doesn't run by double-clicking, I could run it only via the terminal.

To build and test I'm using a Virtual Box machine with ubuntu-20.04.6

Who has Linux machine, could you please check if you get the same behaviour like I do? And maybe I'm missing something with the building proicess?
