The Xbox is far monopolistic than Apple. The discs you buy in the game store are made by MS and tightly controlled by them.
Uh, Microsoft was the first company that freely let indie devs make games for their console platform through their free XNA framework back in '04.
Also, I can go buy a Xbox game at any store physically or online, and I can even sell my old xbox games. What other store can I go to buy Apple apps? Can I resell my apps?
How is the xbox more monopolistic than Apple?
The definition of a Monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.
Apple has the exclusive control of the supply or trade of iOS apps, period. You can't get them from the "X" store, you can't side-load them, etc.
...I don't even know how you can compare Microsoft because they aren't controlling the supply or trade of their products in any way that is exclusively monopolistic.
Epic is absolutely right and has a very strong case against Apple. I'm sure many companies will be following Epic's lead, because until Apple allows you to sideload or allows third party stores to deliver content, it is, by every definition, an illegal monopoly.
Sony or Nintendo are better examples; at times they have controlled most of the console market. Nintendo in particular are far less open to third parties, with first party titles dominating.
Consoles companies are a really bad example in general. They didn't exclusively control delivery of their products at any point in their lifetime despite offering exclusive titles on their systems. Having exclusive content on your platform is not monopolistic but exclusively controlling the delivery, distribution, and supply of that content is. This is what Apple does with its app store(its a systematic architectural design of their business model).
In the end, Epic's game was pulled for circumventing Apples exclusive content delivery monopoly.
