Shaun_Max I haven't tried it, as I am more of an apps guy, but it is indeed from our friend Rodrigo who always does a great job with his libraries. Graphx has tried to stay as close to Flash API as possible.

I've been using Flutter for probably a year and my experience is ... meh...
I love the Hot Reload.

But for serious things, it still immature.
Also the pkgs dependency and the setup is a mess of hell. The workflow? Not so friendly from AS3/Flash/AIR perspective we've been have so far.

App size is way bigger for even just simple thing.

Don't ask about graphics and gaming, it is total a$$$0le compared to Starling.

No I don't recommend it.
For serious matter , I choose Qt over Flutter as alternative to AIR.
Qt now support Python apart from C++.

blablabla Can you elaborate on "App size is way bigger"? My experience (about 10 apps released on android and iOS) is that app size is so low, compared to air, I can now distribute our apps as "Instant apps".

Just an example, same app with exact same packages etc on air and flutter:
AIR (Flex, with ANEs - Admob, Mediator for Facebook ads, Firebase core, analytics, crashlytics, google services ):

Shaun_Max haha working proto in AIR, client says do it in AIR, you can't figure out how to do it in Flutter.... but you don't want to do it in AIR and want to do it in flutter.

Still doing AIR for some existing apps until it burns to the ground. 😅

mfrasier honestly, I don't want to do it in flutter, but its just scary to undertake a project of this kind in starling. The client honestly don't understand the difference between starling & flutter, they just want me to take up the project asap.

Within a month I turned 5 AIR apps (android and ios) to flutter. Then I had to go back on working on 2 remaining apps we have built in Flex and AIR.. I am just punishing myself...

Hello, very interesting discussion. I am maintaining an AIR desktop application using a lot of components. I'm studying a flutter migration. I found this topic looking for air + flutter in Google search.
How would you convert mxml modules in flutter ?

patbier Most of the migration is fairly straight forward coming from mxml. Like Label -> Text, TextInput -> TextField, HGroup -> Row, VGroup -> Column etc.

The most "difficult" part moving would probably be wrapping your mind around how things work + some basic understanding of native development (for each platform). The most common issues I see with people I help to migrate, is that they haven't work and not fully understand Android or iOS native development tasks.

Berton77 i don't think there are any tutorials specific for AS3 developers? What's available in YouTube is more than enough. It's better to start off with small projects with just features than working on making an entire app.

As shaun said, I am not sure there's a tutorial for people moving from as3/air to flutter dart. However, I totally recommend the appbrewery.co course - "Introduction to flutter development using dart". It is a great way to start. Dart is very close to as3, without all the baggage and is super modern so you will get used to it really fast. As for Flutter, it might seem a bit strange at first but if you have worked with mxml, it makes perfect sense.

Indeed it is not worth the effort. Most components from mxml can be migrated to flutter ui super easily.

Labe -> Text
HGroup -> Row
VGroup -> Column
Group -> Container

And so on. If you need help ping me, my company has migrated a lot of Flex apps to Flutter, so at least I can point to the right direction🙂

TeotiGraphix for AS3 developer you should try StageXL instead as it was developed in the mindset of "Adobe Flash Heritage" StageXL and yes it is available in the StageXL Dart Pub

But still, if I got to migrate from AS3/AIR I personally chose Qt over Flutter.

I am not really sure as never used / had the need for one. I know that you can load and manipulate svgs. There are also other libraries you can use for low level (an example here).

It comes down to what you need to do. In case of developing a game / flash-like type implementations (I don't recommend using flutter for games) you can use libraries like Flame (game engine) and Rive.
