I have simply done this:
1) as Daniel Said I always dispose everything, so when I don't need an image anymore I dispose it and all related stuff
2) I use a little trick. I simply have two version of my bitmaps (low-res < 100px) and "hi-res" (>=1024).
I always load low-res images, so even if user changes images very quickly they are loaded fast. Only when user stops to interact with the galleries I load the hi-res images. In this away I avoid to load hi-res images when not needed.
The problem is that when you try to load hi-res images the application freezes for a while, so I have to find the best moment to load these images.
When the "progressively load textures" feature will be supported or when we'll use Workers or multithreading we'll find a better way to handle it.
Naturally if somebody has a suggestion to improve it I'm here 🙂
