There are a few videos showcasing Ubi Art framework that powers latest Rayman Legends game and they're like a goldmine of 2D awesomeness, however - 2 things grabbed my attention the most and I was wondering whether they are possible to replicate (or fake a bit) in the Starling world.
- Distance Fog (or dynamic? fog) - video segment starts around 9:50

I assume I can fake Z axis with scale and get away with it on the basic level, but the colors part is a bummer - I can either tint sprites with vertex colors or fake the fog with a semi transparent quad in front of a whole layer, but neither seems appropriate. Is there a proper way to fake fog and distance, especially with some DOF/blur in it?
- Selective level lighting that affects only elements on specific layer - starts around 10:50

Any idea about this?
I'd appreciate any ideas on the above. Also - feel free to watch the whole video, their engine and the workflow is outstanding.
