.air app not working on Mac

I have a Adobe Air app that worked fine years ago and now after installing I get: The application "Name" can't be opened.

I suspect it is because it is signed with a self signed certificate. If that is the issue, where can I get a valid certificate so I can release this application for people to use on their Mac OS based machines?

I don't use a .air app, but for a captive runtime (bundle), you can use a self signed certificate to create the app, the app work on the local machine, but to share the app is necessary to notarize it.

To distribute a macOS app, you need to join Apple's developer program. Apple can issue you a "Developer ID" certificate for distributing apps outside of the App Store. Then, you also need to submit to Apple for notarization each individual build of your app that you plan to distribute to end users.

1) adt can sign the app, it's easier than using codesign.
adt -sign -storetype KeyChainStore -alias "Developer ID Application: xxx (RSxxx)" -target bundle myApp.app myApp_signed.app

2) altool is deprecated, use notarytool

3) and staple
