"totally black" suggests something is not working at all. I can't easily test it, I don't know if @Daniel can take a look. A couple more ideas as to things to try/consider:
Try enabling enableErrorChecking
on your Starling instance, to see if it complains about anything. I don't know what it might report but it could turn up something.
What platform is this? Windows sometimes seems to have a particular sensitivity to the profile used, as it uses it to determine which graphics features to use out of all those added to Windows down the years (other platforms just don't have these old APIs hanging around). The lighting extension needs baselineConstrained
or higher so you might try that.
It should not just stop working with an AIR update, so clearly there is an issue with AIR. But working out what sort of issue it is might give you a workaround, and will help get it fixed in AIR too.
