Sorry about the terrible pun in the title. If you are a self-employed UK developer, I was just wondering how you reported app sales in your tax return.
For example, if you sold one app priced at £1.99 in the UK Apple App Store, you'd receive £1.15 from Apple (after 30% Apple commission, 20% VAT and 2% digital sales tax are taken off).
Let's say you sold just that one app in the financial year. Would you report your turnover as £1.15 (the money received) or £1.99 (the sale price)? If it's the latter, would you then report the commission, VAT and tax of the sale as expenses?
I guess I'm slightly confused about the relationship with Apple/Google/whoever when they're acting as an agent for me (which is what the internet suggests they are doing!).
In case someone does reply - I am fully aware that any comments in this thread are not advice and I won't hold anyone liable for anything I do! And I intend on consulting an accountant, I just wanted to get some other people's thoughts on things.
