Framerate capped after Windows update (~32)

I'm not sure why, but after a Windows update that took around an hour last night, my framerate is capped now at around 32:

I was using an old SDK, pre-Harman, but even after upgrading to latest version I still get the same framerate.

The framerate limiter does work, for example, if I put it to 10 I get 10 FPS, but past 32 I still get 32.

Anyone running into this issue?, or ideas of what I could try.

edit: I tried to create a post in Adobe's site, after linking my google account to the site, it keeps refreshing indefinitely.. fun times.

You could try different profile settings, i.e. the one you specify when you call Starling's constructor. I seem to recall that this determines or helps determine the DirectX version used.

At a loss as to what else to try. Being able to run at 60fps has been possible with Flash/AIR for a long time, GPUs and displays normally happily run at 60fps or better. You could try searching in case someone else has a similar issue with the update, not necessary with AIR as it seems unlikely just AIR would be affected, as it's not really doing anything exceptional running at 60fps.

Yeah, I assume something in my latest Windows update fucked it up.

Well, it happens on the debugger only, so I can work with that, still, kind of a big problem.

Just to be clear, this happens on a fresh new project with nothing on it. I'm not putting my CPU/GPU under stress.

Also while running it at around 32 FPS I can see my GPU and CPU almost with no load. So there is some strange capping going on under the hood.

I've seen something similar with a debug build on Mac, when using Flash Player for testing, whenever the mouse is held down. I always put it down to random debug code, such as e.g. events firing messing up timing. Never tried profiling it though – as long as the release build runs fine I can live with it.

I have the same issue. Weird solution is to keep Scout open - back to 60fps.

I can confirm this 30 fps capping situation has appeared for me since the last Windows 10 update. It's a real showstopper for my games as it happens even when exporting a build as an app, where once they ran at 60fps, now it's around half that. Anyone found a solution yet?

Just to clarify..."app" as in Android, iOS?

In this case, just exporting a desktop build of the game and playing it with the stats profiler shows 32fps. I rolled back Windows to pre the latest update and lo and behold, 60fps, so this is a Microsoft issue it seems - lets hope they can sort it out.

Have you verified the same behavior on a computer other than your own? (same update, os, etc..)

At this time, only verified on my own machine but from reading the above anecdotal evidence ( and on the link HardcoreMode posted ( https://github.com/Gamua/Adobe-Runtime-Support/issues/307) this seems to be a legit issue. It may magically fix itself with the next Windows update but still, scary.

Just had this happen to me this morning, so yeah it's real.

UPDATE: I have managed to hack fix this;

I have a feeling it's the Power Management mode which was at Optimum, I set it back to max performance.

I also changed the max FPS but I don't think that was it, the same issue happens with USB and performance audio, if the settings get messed up, you get crackling, here we get clamped frame rate.

I have run the debugger multiple times and I finally get 60 FPS back on Windows 10.

TeotiGraphix Glad I saved this! I almost tore an app apart because it was at 32fps again(thought there was a UI recursion 😆 ), either this last Windows 10 update or NVidia update reset all the settings again.

My game is running 60 FPS in .exe on Windows 10 latest updates with 64-bit Captive Runtime ?!

I did test with debugger but only worked with 32 bit still got that sweet 60 fps 😉

FlashFix This is all graphics driver related IMHO, probably why it's only happening to certain PCs. Only a guess. My driver is NVidia, so when Windows updated this last time the install reset a bunch of core settings.

... or it could have been the graphics driver update that screwed up those settings. The fact remains my debug was capped at 30fps and changing that performance setting, everything was correct again. I had that setting at performance before.

I am at Optimal power but with Max frame rate at OFF I also have Nvidia card
I also use the advanced 3D images settings with the Adjust image settings with preview maybe that is the bug ?
