From a company perspective:
Programming by it self it's already a specific task, so we are conditioned from the beginning about that.
Requesting from the market a more vertical tech like AIR it's even harder.
But, requesting from the market, workers from a abandon tech may became a mission impossible on a specific area.
Training developers inside the house that come from other areas, may became the only option available with a high price (time) and they will bring profit to the company only on a medium/long term (depending on his/her previous experience).
So, latter, this worker that probably will not be a fool, with became more relevant for the company and with that will request an higher salary.
From a indie perspective (specially side hustles):
Usually are dedicated workers that may depend 100% on this or not (known as side hustle), they don't want dated tech and are driven by the tech him self, best practices and of course profit, so working with a tech without seeing new features every year (maintenance mode), it's a bad sign and give unpleasure tool to work daily.
This kind of workers, may work on weekends and even holidays and this kind of work it's a mix of profit and pleasure (one cannot live without the other).
