So i've added a large (1024x1024) image to my mobile game, using a RenderTexture, and applied a blur filter on it (4x4). Works great on desktop (as expected), but very poorly on mobile (LG G4 - a powerful device).
Nothing new here, since it was mentioned in other posts, for example:
It is important to note that I apply the filter once, and there's no need to change the filter properties. I do need to change (tween) image properties (alpha).
I guess it is expected, my question is what are my options?
1. Use the cache() method?
Tried it - since I tween the filtered image I get strange results (transparent image etc.). Am I doing something wrong?
2. Move to Starling 2.0 (from 1.8)?
Should I expect better results?
I see a lot of posts about Starling 2.0 saying that things a breaking, and I'm a bit reluctant to move to it right now
3. Apply a blur filter on a texture?
Is that possible?
4. Apply a blur filter on a BitmapData, and create a texture from it?
Can't extract BitmapData from the texture itself, as far as I know...
